I was organizing my pauper decks when I realized just how prevalent the use of the Ravnica guilds and Alara shards has become to denote decks that have color pairs or "wedges". Izzet and Dimir are comonly used to describe blue/red and blue/black decks respectively and Jund and Esper are also commonly used for red/black/green and White/Blue/Black decks.
Having these terms makes it much easier to name color variants of decks (Grixis Storm, Izzet Clout Post, etc...) and I realized that we don't have names for the opposing wedges... whatever they are called: two allied colours and their enemy color.
This got me to thinking about how successful and fun all the multicolor expansions have been (Invasion, Ravnica and Shards) so I am fully expecting that the a block in the near future will be multicolored once again and that, like Ravnica and Shards, it will generate a bunch of groups or factions that tell some kind of story within the block but this time, the colors used will be two allied colours and their opposing or vice-versa, two enemy colours and their common friend.
I'm pretty sure that designing this kind of block will be as challenging as it was for Shards of Alara, so here's hoping we get something with the quality of Ravnica.
