Hey everyone!
For those of you who listened to episode 60, I am the one who sent the "wordy" email about building a viable deck with just the initial starting fee. I just joined MTGO, but it is a little overwhelming. I'm not really sure what to do/where to go for specific things.
I think I'm going to go with mono black control, but I have no clue what bots I should use to buy the cards. I also am not sure how to go about selling my m12 pack that I got. I checked pennybot, but they didn't seem to have most of the cards I was looking for. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks!

Okay, I'll be sure to add you as a buddy when I get on. First of all, go here: www.mtgoacademy.com/tutorials/Some stuff will just be M:tG common sense, but other things will be of great help in understanding the ui, where to find what you need, and what to do to make the most of your experience. A couple of bots to add in the beginning would be "pennybot" and "cardwarehouse". Pennybot will get you 100 cards for a single ticket, and most of them would be considered Pauper staples. Obviously some of the more expensive ones, like Lotus Petal or Gorilla Shaman, won't be there, but you can scoop up Ravnica dual bounces, and stuff like that.

Hi moderndaylegend, for some inspiration, you might check out the primer I wrote for my column on wrongwaygoback.com/scienceofpauper/2012/03/05/001-what-you-do-in-the-dark/. I have to warn you, it is quite a bit different from most lists that can be seen online. I guess, it needs a bit of tweaking too since I haven't worked on it for quite some time. I don't want to discourage you but MBC - in my opinion - is not the easiest deck to play. I thought about a beginner-friendly archetype and came up with UR Cloudpost. Anyway, if you need some mentoring with MBC, feel free to contact me. I've been playing this deck for 3-4 years now.

Also note the league #2 that just started. The first format there is standard pauper and decks are dirt cheap to build!

And Matti is just copy-and-paste-ing his promotion for the League regardless of the topic xD

Awesome, thanks for all the help. @rockbass - thanks I checked out some of the articles and feel that I have a decent grasp of the ui now. I also messed around with the free trial for awhile too. I did check out both of those bots, but they didn't have a lot of the mbc cards. Will it save my credit though? I will buy what I can and then buy some staples with the rest. It looks like I'm going to have to buckle down and spend some extra money on some cards (most notably crypt rats). Feel free to send me a message on mtgo if you ever see me on. yugular - I'm interested in the league. I have been hearing it on the podcast, but how long do I have to throw a block deck together? High_Gene - thanks for the tips (and warning). I think I'm going to stick with mbc. I understand it might be difficult to play, but I'm willing to go through some bumps along the way (that's how we get better isn't it??) I was going through some bots and saw the best price for the m12 pack was around 2.83. Does this seem like a good deal? Anyone know if I can get more anywhere? Thanks!

How about some free cards? I have alot of the stuff from recent sets. I'm willing to part with play sets of most of them as long as I have a play set. Contact me here or on MTGO, same username.

Yes, they will save your credit. Which is awesome, especially with Pennybot.
Another thing to do is go to the classifieds and type "Pauper Bot". You can find some pauper dedicated bots that way.

Standard, not block We will play standard in June and July. So you have plenty of time. In August the format will change to Classic Pauper. That price looks good. If you have checked multiple bots and looked at the classifieds you should be able to see pretty soon what is the pricerange for those. You should add buddy the bot you sold the pack to be able to use your credit later...
