Well, I'm back. After a six month hiatus, I can finally start playing Magic again. Woot! Happy face.
Unfortunately, my personal situation is no longer what it used to be, and because of it I need to say goodbye to live events. As such, I find myself looking with renewed interest at MtGO. What was previously a mere testing platform is likely to become my main gaming venue as far as Magic goes. And so I'm looking for people to test with on a regular basis. Random matches only do so much, and are no substitute for a playgroup to test, brew and compete with.
I'm rusty, I'm out of it, but the enthusiasm is there. If anyone out there is looking for a test partner, let me know here or look me up online.
Cheers!

I could definitely do some serious testing! I have only storm built so far, but over time I will invest into other decks too. I already have all fetchland playsets etc.

I'd be down for testing. I have a few decks, but not the big expensive ones. In time I hope to own like jund and stuff as well.

I currently focus a bit more on the paper part of Magic since I got some Pauper action going again in my local playing group. I'm organizing a League there, so my schedule is quite tight. But if I have some additional spare time, I'll definitively like to play test.

I'm in. Right now, Jay Boosh from the Eh Team is borrowing my Modern deck, but once I get it back, I'll be ready to play,

I'm in. Right now, Jay Boosh from the Eh Team is borrowing my Modern deck, (...) Yeah, heard that this morning on the podcast. Not sure I agree with the guys assessment that the deck is terrible though since, well... it's not. So anyway... do we want to set specific days for this? Timezones could be a problem, but it might still be possible to do so. Personally, I can free myself two evenings a week for sure, plus saturday and/or sunday every other weekend.

Well, the Eh Team is nothing if not opinionated...
Let's see here, Matti was also wanting to do some Commander testing/videos and we wanted you to be in those as well, Grumpy. Maybe we can alternate weeks where we do some modern testing/Commander stuff?
I am free almost every evening after 9 PM, with the exception of the show on Mondays. I can also do weekends with some planning. Pacific time zone.

I am free almost every evening after 9 PM, with the exception of the show on Mondays. I can also do weekends with some planning. Pacific time zone. Probably the biggest hurdle right there. 9pm PDT is 12am EDT for me - much too late for this old boy. And God knows what that mean for Matti. Weekends should be fine though. As I mentioned previously, I'm available every other weekend for sure. Even then, I can probably free myself every weekend. Timezones are less problematic when you have the whole day. I guess that the first step is simply to do it. Once. And see how it goes. I've got something this coming Sunday, but otherwise I can probably find time on Saturday and Monday. I'd be happy to sling some virtual cardboard. Let's see here, Matti was also wanting to do some Commander testing/videos and we wanted you to be in those as well, Grumpy. Maybe we can alternate weeks where we do some modern testing/Commander stuff? Sure. I'd be happy to. What do you have in mind? Classic Commander? Or Peasant/Pauper as was discussed a few weeks (months?) back?

My timezone is so far away... But I will make it work, sometimes! I know listeners have wanted streams & videos. Commander matches between staff could be really fun, and I definitely wanted you in as one of the earliest members of the community and our history in cube community.

9 PM for Pacific is 5 AM for Matti, so there's going to be some clever timing stuff going on.
My band has a show this Saturday, so it's out for me. Monday, however, is Labor Day, and I have it off. So if we did something like 2 PM my time, it would be 5 PM Eastern, and 10 PM in Matti's neck of the woods.
Does something like that seem doable?

Would be doable for me. Even if I'm in Canada, my job follows US holidays, so I'm off on Monday too. Not sure about Matti though.
One way or another, I'm definitely going to be online over the weekend. I feel like playing and it's my first free weekend in months.

Busy week at work, but I was still able to do a bit of testing. Right now I’m running RG KarnTron and RUG Delver. Both lists are fairly standard, with a twist or two: the Tron deck is running Tarmogoyfs to strengthen the matchup against Mono Red and other aggressive decks, and the Delver deck has a pair of Garruk Relentless in the main instead of Vedalken Shackles. The tweaks have been working well so far, but I’m still rusty (i.e. bad) thanks to my forced hiatus. Gonna have to keep testing and practicing. Highlight of the week: I’m testing the Tron deck and I run into an interesting GWb Tokens deck. My opponent runs mana dorks to accelerate his gameplan. So instead of going: Turn 1: Land Turn 2: Anthem effect Turn 3: Token producer Turn 4: Attack He goes: Turn 1: Land, mana dork Turn 2: Token producer Turn 3: Double-Anthem effect, attack That’s pretty brutal. Getting hit for 9 on turn 3 thanks to Spectral Procession tokens and double Anthem is pretty nasty. So anyway… Game 1. I get crushed. My opponent’s deck does exactly what it’s supposed to do. I get hit for 9 two turns in a row, and my early Wurmcoil Engine is removed with a Path to Exile. Going to sideboard, I decide to remove the ‘Goyfs. I’m not going to race my opponent, at least not without some added value. I bring in all the lifelinking and burn that I have left: a Batterskull, a third Wurmcoil Engine, two Firespouts and a lone Combust. I also decide to side out Emrakul, as he’s probably too slow, even with ramp. Game 2 is a brawl. I win by the skin of my teeth and thanks to what I consider a misplay on my opponent’s part. At one point, I’m dead on board with only a Karn out. The planeswalker has vindicated away a couple of Anthems and the remaining tokens are now only 1/1s. My opponent knows that I have Combusts, but he doesn’t know that I have only one in my 75, which may be why he played the way he did. Maybe he thought I had another in hand. Maybe he thought I was running Volcanic Fallout too. Hard to say. So instead of attacking me, he uses his tokens to attack and kill Karn, thinking me an easy prey once the big ‘walker is gone. I untap, play a Chromatic Star and sacrifice/draw into a Pyroclasm. I wipe his board, tutor a Wurmcoil with my Eye of Ugin and finish him off a couple of turn later as he fail to draw gas. Game 3, I’m still worried. My win in game 2 was a fluke as far as I’m concerned. I’m on the draw, so he can easily run me over before I can do anything. My beginning hand is good. I have a Karn on turn 3 and a Batterskull, but I need to draw into my burn-sweepers if I want to win. An Ulamog on my first draw step is not what I want to see. Unless… So I play Karn on turn 3, exiling the Eldrazi from my hand. My opponent starts beating – hard, if a little slowly – and I’m barely holding to dear life. The guy completely ignores the planeswalker this time around. At one point I play a Firespout to clear his board and he answers with a Midnight Haunting at the end of my turn. I’m almost dead to his tokens, but I still have a way out as long as he doesn’t realize what I’m trying to do. He untaps, attacks me down to 2 Life and drops more tokens on the battlefield. At that point though, I don’t care. He did exactly what I was hoping he would. On my turn I ultimate Karn, restarting the game with an Ulamog and a Karn in play on turn 1. An unfair advantage to say the least. No surprisingly, my opponent conceded. Fun!

Now thats a sweet Karn story. My best one involved attacking for lethal general damage on turn one with Rafiq

I am interested. Awkward time zone, though, GMT +1. I own most of the big modern decks, minus the most expensive cards. Have a red burn, splinter twin and storm deck that is fully operational.

BTW, is there a good podcast on Modern? Heard Gabochido say there were 50 podcasts on Standard, so there should be at least one good one about Modern, I figured
