So. Pure speculation, but Yo MTG Taps episode 79 has an interview with Aaron Forsythe in it, wherein he hints that he is trying to find the right set to bring back Rancor.
So, nothing concrete, but at least it's on the table.

I need to check that episode. I don't usually listen to that show.
Re-printing Rancor would be really good for availability. Rancor is pretty expensive and hard to find both in paper and in modo (for a common). Thankfully it was already printed in Garruk vs. Liliana, but I guess that product didn't sell too much in modo.

The will never reprint it at common level, so it would be out of standard and extended purposes but will still be playable in legacy pauper.

Apparently they had tried it in Scars block but it made Infect way too OP, so they had to drop it.

Every now and then you can hear/read stories how casual infect deck beats well tuned standard/legacy decks in two turns. It is just so explosive when you get the right hand.

Rancor is common on Modo right? If not, F-U virtual card owners!!!!
Though, for some reason I believe Rancor is on Modo.
I hate Modo.

I highly doubt rancor will come back into this block. But, the last set is supposed to be a coming home party for goyf, confi and some other stuff.

All ten shocklands, Vendilion Cliq, Mutavault, Cryptic Command, Noble Hierarch, Bitterblossom, Damnation, FoD. I bet 90% of those cards will be in Avacyn Restored alongside with what Mike listed. Just so that poor people can afford Modern.

Especially for things like Clique, Hierarch and Mutavault which were block specific because of themes or mechanics. Beside, printing these cards for Standard wouldn't bring their prices down a whole lot. All of those would be Standard playable, so you would have the Standard players and the Modern players looking for them. Prices would remain high until they rotate again out of Standard. Personally, while I can see something like Dark Confidant, Tarmogoyf and/or the Shocklands returning eventually (but likely not before the next block), I expect WotC to produce something like Event Decks for Modern instead. Some of these cards are not safe for Standard. Especially not all at once.

I agree with the event deck scenario. Seems like a common sense way of bringing cards they don't want warping the Standard format.
Or maybe a Legends or Premium set?

But as of today, those rumors can be put to rest.
