I played in two Sealed Tournaments for Innistrad Pre-Release. Here are my two decklists and how my rounds went. I have to say, I was disappointed in my performance. I don't think I have ever played 12+ hours of Magic and only walked away with winning only one pack (due to a handshake decision before the final round-which I lost.)
Deck One: RED/BLACK(6 Rounds: 3-3)
Creatures: 12
Reckless Waif/Merciless Predator
Vampire Interloper x2
One-Eyed Scarecrow
Crossway Vampire
Rakish Heir
Screeching Bat/Stalking Vampire
Feral Ridgewolf
Abattoir Ghoul
Skirsdag Cultist
Pitchburn Devils
Reaper from the Abyss
Other Cards: 11
Dead Weight
Devil’s Play
Furor of the Bitten x2
Inquisitor’s Flail
Nightbird’s Clutches
Brimstone Volley
Traitorous Blood
Rolling Temblor
Unburial Rites
Heretic’s Punishment
I had a couple of turn 4 kills with this deck. However, removal shut me down and I had no draw effects to fill my hand.
I still think that in draft, the red/black aggro plan will work. I just didn't have a consistent fast start due to the Sealed-nature of the card pool. It was still a solid deck and the matches I lost were top 4 decks in a field of 34. I finished 12th, I think.
My favorite plays were:
Reckless Waif/Merciless Predator or Vampire Interloper with Furor of the Bitten to start the game and I finished quite well with:
The ability to hit for something fairly substantial every turn in the late game was very powerful. I only whiffed once with this to ping a 1/3 for 1. The rest of the hits were to the face for terminal damage.
Deck Two: BLUE/WHITE (5 Rounds: 3-2)
Creatures: 15
Delver of Secrets/Insectile Aberration x2
Avacynian Priest
Silverchase Fox
Selhoff Occultist
Stitched Drake
Skaab Runiator
Fiend Hunter
Voiceless Spirit
One-Eyed Scarecrow
Makeshift Mauler
Angel of Flight Alabaster
Creepy Doll
Battleground Geist
Geistcatcher’s Rig
Other Cards: 8
Blazing Torch
Silent Departure
Dream Twist x2
Mask of Avacyn
Dissipate x2
Smite the Monstrous
This was fun to play since it was such a curveball for the field. I played quick creatures or milled myself to get myself into position to cast the cheap Zombies, which exiled creatures from my graveyard. Sometimes those early bombs were just too much for my opponents to recover from. Every time the Skaab Ruinator hit the board, all of my opponent's attention was focused on killing it. I then, with little difficulty cast it again from the graveyard. It may have been too much work to make this card work in Limited, but it was fun trying. I also had some chances to pull Spirits out of my graveyard with my Angel, but if it was a creature in my graveyard, it was typically exiled ASAP.
My favorite plays:
Mill myself for 3, with flashback into the Skaab Ruinator.
Overall, it was a lot of fun. There was more synergy than I have seen in previous Sealed events. There were a lot of good decks. I would like to see what you pulled and how your Sealed events went, so please post in reply.
