Our trio discusses the updates to Nate’s Pauper cube, a few interesting decks that have popped up in the metagame lately, and analyzes the Affinity vs. Delver Blue match up. This is Pauper to the People. www.mtgcast.com/?p=23545

Just wanna give props for that last episode. It was really cool to hear you guys following the suggestions given in these forums, like discussing play strategies for a matchup as well as deck building. The information in the Delver vs Affinity segment was really useful and I hope you guys do more.
Thanks for the good work and content and for listening to your listeners, its really appreciated! ;D

@nate Without looking the specific contents of the cube I find it hard to believe that you cut Condescend. That spell is very good counter and especially useful against aggro. Condescend their 3/4 drop and smoothen your draw, sounds fine to me.
@chris Going auto in aggro is not the great option in cube. Aggressive strategies are way more hard to make viable in cubes that midrange and control. People like to include flashy effects into their cubes and Jackal Pup or Loam Lion isn't flashy.
Also you need so much more aggressive beaters in comparison to control finishers that some cubes fail to support aggro because of that. Control decks only need 2-4 finishers, but aggrodecks need 15 beaters.
Great episode. One of the best! Easily the best episode under current staff.

I understand what your saying Matti But in my play group most everyone find Condescend pretty useless.

Yeah, I just respectfully disagree with your group then ;D Anyways, cuts and modifications are always good to do according to what actually gets played or is not played, rather than the pure power level of the card, because some groups just can't make certain effects to work i guess.

Maybe it's just my complete lack of experience with pauper cubes, and Nate's specifically, but I was surprised you guys didn't give Ray of Command much mention. It's a high pick in normal draft formats.
It makes me wonder what sort of differences there are between drafting a pauper cube and drafting a "normal" cube or a limited format. You probably made an episode addressing that when Nate's cube got introduced, but I haven't been listening to the podcast for very long, so I don't know when that would be... Could someone point me towards episodes that have talked about the cube?

You should check out The Third Power podcast from mtgcast.com - it is purely about cubing, they have also at least one episode that is fully devoted to pauper cube. Also check out mtg salvation forums. There is a subforum for cube discussion and user lanxal has lots of resources available about paupercubes.

Ray of command is currently in the cube for me though I would wait for the pack to come back around because Mulldrifter, Looter, or Ninja would be a better First pick in my opinion
