So what happened exactly? It seems like most tweets have been removed.

From what I understand.....the guy who got suspended was talking mess about his opponents at the Grand Prix, including posting nasty things about them on Twitter. The info got re-tweeted around and the hammer came down.

Oh okay. It make sense, the community doesn't need people like that. Nice to see Wizards being so quick about it.

So, apparently he took it one step further and was taking photos of his opponents as well as talking mess about them. Pretty punk ass thing to do.

Matt Sperling talk about this situation in his latest article on Channel Fireball. I don't really agree with him, but then again I have little tolerance for this kind of bullshit. I just find it despicable. Interestingly enough, the DCI is not the only organization taking a hard stance against this kind of cyber-bullying. See here.

So matt sperling's argument is that.. "Yes what he did was wrong, but he was just trying to get a giggle from his friends and banning him is kinda harsh..". Wow, just wow.

Thing is, you have to be cautious with these kind of jokes. People can be very sensitive about such things, especially those who have been bullied before. You may find the jape harmless, your friends may find it harmless, but if you think that the person you're making the joke about may be hurt or offended by it... just don't do it. There's no need to be an a-hole about it. Personally, I think that the guy got off easy. An 18 months ban from WotC is nothing compared to what he could get from taking and posting online pictures like that. Especially considering that some of those were likely from underage people.

Hmmm... Mike, I don't get that out of Sperling's article at all. The majority of what I get out of it is:
1. He was being a dick, and no one can really logically argue otherwise. 2. Even as a dick, that length of banning without an official warning beforehand seems excessive. 3. Clear and concise rules to govern this sort of situation would be best for everyone.
Now, obviously, I haven't seen the tweets and question, but hearing about it, I find it hard to imagine a bigger way to be a douchebag than this guy was. But also, I find a year and a half suspension for being a jerk to be pretty extreme itself. A much better point could likely have been made with a shorter suspension.
