A slow news week (spoilers, spoilers, spoilers) prompts Chris, Mike, and Peter to open up a pack of French Homelands, butcher the language, and set Franco-American relations back a few decades. There is also talk about changes to the mono Black deck, Storm, and discussion of the viability of multiple colored decks in the format. Nate was noticeably absent, as he was preoccupied with sheep shearing seminars in upstate Cleveland. Thanks to Matti for the awesome cards and booster pack! This is Pauper to the People. Another great show guys. I miss the matchup up segment though . I have a few comments on some things you guys said on this episode. A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, is a type of "Living Card Game" (LCG). It gets rid of the grey market issue by selling the cards in fixed boxed sets, similar to, say, the from the vault sets (but without the foily stuff). So if you want 3 of a certain card (I believe 3 is the maximum you can have in a deck), you just buy whatever boxed set its in 3 times and you are guaranteed to get it. I believe I mentioned in a previous post that I think Pauper on MTGO is kind of like an LCG because the cards are so cheap and readily available that you can basically just spend a fixed amount to get the decks you want so everyone has access to everything they want. I got the core set for A Game of Thornes recently and its quite interesting and fun. The rules seem similar to magic (you tap guys to attack and have lands and equipment/auras) but the strategy I believe is a little different. For those who love to complain about how expensive Magic is and how WotZ is milking everyone, I encourage you to try it out. About the 4/3 guy that can optionally deal 4 damage. I don't really see any reason to worry. It basically can deal 1 more damage than a lightning bolt to the head but you have the option of it just being a creature instead. When the opponent has options that greatly diminishes the strength of a card. Right now we have Timely Reinforcements which should easily deal with any advantage this card might give and in older formats there are enough ways to deal with it. Also, where is mono red right now? If this is as powerful as it would seen, that will probably balance out standard a bit, not the other way around. About the question on multicolored decks. Its true that there are fewer multicoloured decks that do well, even though 3 of the very best decks happen to be multicolored (Ux cloudpost, storm, Affinity). I think an important factor here is that common cards tend to be more focused on aggro strategies and aggro strategies need to be fast and consistent, which is why the best ones are monocolored (goblins, ww, stompy, blue delver). I think what we need to see more multicoloured decks are not necessarily the lands, but cheap defensive cards (outside of blue) plus powerful midrange cards that can make control, midrange and new combo decks more viable. Just my 2 cents.

LIVING Card Game! Thank you. That has been driving me nuts that I forgot it.
And the buying singles route is very similar to that approach.

AH snap, Gabochido beat me too it! I just finished listening to the episode today and was all set to rush here and tell you guys that it's a Living Card Game. Basically, you get a full playset of each card in a pack (and he's right that it's 3 per deck max in AGOT) though the Core Set is balanced as a potential stand alone board game type experience as an option for folks, and so all of the cards in it are not full playsets. Anyway, one pack comes out each month, so for $15 each month you get 60 cards (3 copies each of 20 cards) and the metagame continually shifts and evolves. The smaller monthly release schedule has some pluses and some minuses as compared to the quarterly larger releases like MtG, but hey, people all over pay their $15 a month for WoW- I think of the LCG model as essentially being a card game MMO subscription.
Gabo, if you or anybody else wants to chat some Thrones (particularly how it does and doesn't cross over or relate to Magic- which I ponder quite a lot) just hit me up. I'd love to discuss.
Also, I'd agree that Pauper is as close as it gets to an LCG in Magic. Another key feature currently in the LCG is that it is an eternal environment, so the eternal nature of Pauper combined with the dirt cheep availability of most all of the cards is really what lead me back into MtG in the last couple years. I've been trying to get a few more Thrones/Magic crossover peeps, so we'll see how it goes.
Aside from that stuff, I quite liked the Mono-Black control discussion in this episode. What are the odds that we could get some similar discussion on other tier 1.5 and tier 2 builds on a semi-regular basis? Also, a teensy bit more discussion on what you think is holding the deck back at the moment would probably be constructive for those of us that keep building and testing new decks compulsively. For instance, is predictability the only major factor that you guys think is keeping MBC down at the moment?

I forgot to mention that... I thought the discussion on the evolution of mono black in Pauper Classic was quite interesting and cool.
I don't actually think its really such a bad deck right now. However predictable it might be, I believe it has the best matchup of any other tier 1 or 2 deck against storm and infect (grappling farang agrees with me on the storm matchup). And it has pretty even matchup against other decks. I think in the hands of a good pilot and with the necessary luck, it should be able to get as many wins as other tier 1 decks.

This is all killer stuff, guys. We will be sure to elaborate more on this topic when we bring it up for other decks.

@gabo: Actually... All that stuff you explained about game of thrones.. Kinda makes me want to try it out, sounds pretty cool. Also thank you, now I'm a little less confused about the game. kennon: I wouldn't mind discussing the tier 1.5 or tier 2 decks at all and I'm sure chris and nate wouldn't either.

Jcrodd, I'd suggest taking a look at a couple sites. The official Fantasy Flight Games general forums www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_temas.asp?efid=16&efcid=4Here you'll find all sorts of discussion as you would for any game forum, and there are also sections for rules questions and the like. and CardgameDB.com cardgamedb.com/Here you'll find my show, 2 Champs and a Chump, as well as the Small Council strategy and deckbuilding columns that I was a founding member of. One of the biggest draws of CGDB is the really excellent card search and deckbuilding feature. If I can answer any questions for you, just let me know. Also, Gabochido started a discussion about the AGOT Core Set here in the off topic section.
