Just went through the spoilers over at MTG Slavation, and I must say, black looks to be on its way back.
Sign in Blood, Duress, Ravenous Rats are all coming into standard, along with Murder (a better Rend Flesh/Eyeblight Ending).
Today is now a super happy Monday.

As a black mage myself, i can share your contentment, fellow. Murder's design feels just about right.
Sign in Blood, Duress, Ravenous Rats, oh my.

Mind Sculpt - 1USorcery Target player puts the top seven cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard. For those who brew mill decks. This would be way too awesome if it as instant... OT: OMG! They are reprinting Vampire Nighthawk

Wow! I am really excited about the card "Murder" for the same reason Anz mentioned it, a design perspective.
I've never really liked the limitation to not hit black creatures that black has and Destroy target creature at 1BB seems like very tight design. Unfortunately for pauper, 3 mana is too high for single creature removal, as seen by how expensive things like unmake feel and black has other cheaper options that have small enough limitations.
So, I'm glad they printed it, and it will be great for limited and casual magic, specially showing new players, but I don't think it will have a lot of classic pauper use. It might be in std pauper if there's no other efficient removal like that.
Encrust (enchant artifact or creature, it cant untap or use activated abilities) is also pretty good in the same sense and its aggressively costed.
With Mind Sculpt, we see that Wizards is trying to balance out the importance mill in the game, just like they have been doing with life gain, by making both of these aspects of the game more and more powerful. I think that's a great idea in terms of adding more to the game. Who knows perhaps it will become a feasable win condition. I know for a fact there is a mill deck that just needs a little bit more to become effective. Note, though, that it says target opponent, so it can't be used for graveyard recursion.
Its also cool that they are making Prey Upon green's new core removal. I think green definitely needed that and its a great way to give green's color pie some removal while keeping it within greens flavour.
Rumaging Goblin (red looter) seems like it could have potential, but I think at 2R it would be too expensive for, say, a goblins deck.
Smelt, the new cheaper shatter, could see play in a goblins build against affinity, since getting to destroy their land on turn one makes a big difference and might make it better than the 3 damage from smash to smithereens.
Perhaps the most exciting thing I see is the reprint of Farseek. Could this mean that the Ravnica lands are definitely seeing a reprint in M13 as everyone is hoping for!? Get ready to sell them to the first bot you see if they are, cause their price will plummet!

Yeah. I brought up Murder over at the salvation forums and they quickly rebutted with "victim of night". I guess in competative pauper there arent many vamps, zombies, and wwolves so that is not really a restriction, but its still good to see that we finally get "that spell".

Victim of Night is not typically maindeck, but is found in the SB of most std black (splash) decks. Murder can be maindecked safely ~ and then traded for Victim if necessary.
The card I'm most excited about for (std) pauper is Archaeomancer, it's interaction with Cloudshift and GhostlyFlicker is pretty sweet for standard. I'm trying to run through some ideas of it's best uses in a UW deck but I guess I'll have to wait until the rest of the core set is revealed.

I'm torn. Somewhat excited about quite a few of the cards, but I've got to wonder, is Red "looting" so amazing that it needs to be a full mana more expensive? I dunno. The ability itself is strictly worse (and probably needs a nickname of its own) but I suppose context is everything.

Tormod's Crypt is back....but at Uncommon. Looks like they've done a color cycle of Common enchantments. Black has one "Enchanted Creature gets -1/-1, and can't block". I can immediately see it being used against some of the x/4 creatures currently in Pauper Standard. kennon: I too am torn at Red's Looting. On the one hand, they have it more as a risk/reward type feel which I love. On the other hand, well, its more expensive, on top of the inherent drawback.

Yeah Crypt is back, good now I will get one for my EDH needs. Is the card ever released as a common in mtgo? I know it was common in chronicles, but unc in the dark and timeshifted in TSP.

Chronicles has never been released on mtgo, so Tormod's Crypt is not pauper legal.

Primal Huntbeast 3G Creature - Beast Hexproof 3/3
Now THIS is my kind of beast!
I think this could very well be on par with both Guardian of the Guildpact and Blastoderm. I'm hoping to see this fella in some future midrange decks. I'm still hoping for a midrange common green creature that, in addition to hexproof, says, can't be countered but I don't think we'll be getting that any time soon.
