Greetings everyone!
As you can see in my personal notes I am a moderator of Pauper Strategy board on www.mtgnews.pl, which is the biggest mtg related site in Poland.
As a Pauper subforum we have only recently emerged from the depths of Casual formats subforum and thanks to our continuous efforts we were able to hold our ground and expand. We've attracted lots of casual players and some of them became our regular visitors and commentators.
We've been fighting for popularization of this format in our country for about year and a half now. (for me alone it's 2 years) This task is not easy for us because casual players rarely are willing to create mtgo accounts and pay for virtual cards. We find they enjoy their cardboard too much you see
Because of that we have been organizing online tournaments using Cockatrice (from http://www.cockatrice.de) and got quite a positive feedback.
Right now we are finishing the second Online Pauper Tournament on Cockatrice (after six rounds of games in the last month) and entering top8 single eliminations to establish the victor of the whole event.
It was really cheap to enter (2,5$) but we managed to gather 40 players so prizes are very good for this entry fee. Some polish mtg shops have also helped us with prizes so it got even better. Best thing about it is that we managed to give people something to talk about and be excited with. Increased traffic in our forum also really helped as a morale boost to our cause.
Recently we also launched the www.facebook.pl/pauper.rewolucja project (I don't know if there is a proverb but we say in polish: strike the iron while it's hot - meaning, if you're going big, try to go even bigger ) which is meant to be a polish site for Pauper fans informing about events, metagame, tournaments, news in the web and our forum activity related to Pauper.
We've also been organizing our board more, made important Deck to Beat topics to discuss strategies and metagame, sorted out established decks from brewing topics ans so on.
We're now taking this one step further as we organize nationals of Pauper in Poland. They will be held in our capitol, Warsaw, at the beginning of September. The main event is going to be Pauper Classic Constructed, side events are Pauper Cube and Pauper Legacy.
I deeply believe that Pauper Classic will be an official format someday. Until then me and my comrades will continue to educate people in Poland about it. It's much too fun of a thing not to be publicly known
A lot of people visiting our forum are listeners of your Pauper Podcast. We greatly appreciate what you're doing. It's awesome and sets an example to me and my friends not to give up on our mission. To think big, evolve and expand.
I like to think that Pauper players are much alike, disregarding where we come from. We all enjoy fun things, strategic thinking and gaining incremental board advantage through series of well thought moves. Working with small things towards something greater.
I really think that our biggest strength lies in our unity, cooperating towards a Common Goal. (Emanuele Arcari, Pauper fan from Italy I met on facebook gave me that name for the topic )
This is why I write here. I wanted to inform you about our actions in Poland, give you a feeling that a big group of people behind the ocean thinks just like You, enjoys same things and would maybe like to meet someday and have a friendly game or two with you guys. Or just hang around. Or organize something big together.
If you have any questions feel free to ask, I'll be replying whenever I can
Best Regards
Samuel K.
