[BG Dredge] V1
I. Introduction
Hello everyone, this is my first deck list so you will have to bear with me. I have never played in any mtg events but I have been doing a lot of research on the current metagame. What I have noticed is something that I believe is not new to anyone; control [Delver..] and combo [Storm..] are the most played decks currently. So how to you combat this? It would need to be a deck that is fast enough to beat combo but will not have its resources depleted by control… my answer is Dredge.
The goal behind this deck was to not put too much value into one single card or combo. I believe I have a good starting point but I wanted to see what everyone’s thoughts where on the concept.
I. The Deck End Goal
The goal of the deck will change depending on your match up. For the most part what it wants to do is get as many of the [G, B] Scourge Dragon Auras in your graveyard as possible along with Undead Leotau, then Unearth for the win!
This is done in three ways.
II. The Deck
Combo Pieces – The finisher
Scourge Dragon Auras ----------------------------------
I only use Dragon Fangs and Shadow. One gives your creature +1/+1 and trample and the other gives +1/+0 and fear. But the key is if they are in your graveyard when a creature with CMC of 6 comes into play you can choose to attach them to it.
They are the only ones in our color [G/B], but they both can provide you with evasion so it works great! In some match ups you will be happy to put them on one of your creature in play and just go beats.
Undead Leotau -----------------------------------------
He is a 3 / 4 body with Unearth B2 and gets +1/-1 for a R. The key part about this card is that his CMC is 6! In most games to only way he gets on the board is if you unearth him.
The point of this card is not to deal 20 points of damage in one turn, but to just finish your opponent off. In some games you will it for 6 twice, others you will hit for 8 once. You will have the cards listed below to get them down to that point.
The Dredgers –gets cards in your graveyard and adds some defense
Stinkweed Imp -----------------------------------------
He is a ½ flyer with deathtouch and Dredge 5. Dredging for 5 every turn is a big deal in this deck. He also is your best defensive card you have. In some match ups you will not end up playing him because you want him to always be in your graveyard.
Shambling Shell -----------------------------------------------
He is a 3/1 Dredge 3 and Sacrifice to put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. He sometimes creates a sub game by himself and can provide an alternate win con. The ability to sacrifice him at any time also cannot be overlooked.
Discard Outlets – Puts cards you do not want in your hand into your graveyard. Also providing you with some creature you can turn sideways.
In the T1 slot we have:
Greenseeker ----------------------------------------------
Getting to three lands is key, along with having the right color manna. The other nice goal this card has is its ability to filter out some of those lands that you do not want sitting in your graveyard.
Putrid Imp ------------------------------------------------------
In some match ups you will not have the manna open to use Greenseeker. Putrid Imp provides a free discard outlet that you may need on T1. It also provides a nice surprise beater when you hit Threshold, and in some match ups Threshold will be your game plan.
In the T2 slot we have:
Wild Mongrel --------------------------------------------
Boom! This card is so universal, you will always be happy to draw it. It provides you with some fun combat tricks and is another free discard outlet. In some match up you will need to just go beats and he can do just that.
Fa'adiyah Seer –---------------------------------------
Another land filter with the added bonus of being able to ramp your Dredgers. Most games if your opponent knows what your deck dose, she will be the first target for their removal.
Option Providers – Really it’s the cards you could side bored out (Not completed)
Werebear -----------------------------------------------
Adds some ramp as well as a nice beater mid game. When you start Dredging you will hit Threshold quickly and a 4/4 body is pretty nice in pauper. One more target for your Auras and like I sated before sometimes Threshold is a win con.
Crippling Fatigue – ------------------------------------
A nice spot removal that has flash back. Some matchups this is the first card to get side boarded out.
Gnaw to the Bone –------------------------------------
When you just need one more turn. Also can be side boarded out in some matchups.
III.The Deck Lists – I debated on not putting this deck up because I have not play tested it enough.
But this is what I put together.
(21) Lands
6x Swamp
11x Forest
4x Golgari Rot Farm
(28) Creatures
4x Fa'adiyah Seer
4x Greenseeker
2x Putrid Imp
4x Shambling Shell
3x Stinkweed Imp
3x Undead Leotau
4x Werebear
4x Wild Mongrel
(11) Spells
2x Crippling Fatigue
4x Dragon Fangs
4x Dragon Shadow
1x Gnaw to the Bone
Summry
As I stated this deck is in its infancy stage, but I thought I would show everyone what I have been working on. Any feedback would be great!
Next week I will post [BG Dredge] V2 with the side bored. I just want to get some play testing in first and sort out what to put in the main. Also in this first deck list I really wanted to explain my thought process of card choices. As you can see this post is way too large as is.
Thanks Everyone!
