12 Forest 1 Island 4 Arbor Elf 4 Birchlore Rangers 3 Kavu Primarch 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Llanowar Sentinel 4 Nettle Sentinel 4 Priest of Titania 4 Quirion Ranger 3 Sylvan Ranger 4 Timberwatch Elf 3 Distant Melody 4 Rancor 2 Spidersilk Armor
3 Gleeful Sabotage 2 Spidersilk Armor 4 Thermokarst 2 Viridian Longbow 4 Wellwisher
This is the list that has been getting some 4-0's in the dailies and I'm starting to wonder how in the hell it is.
On this weeks show I said that I was tired of being the nice guy, I'm tired of looking at lists and decks and not speaking how I really feel about how a deck looks to me. When a weird deck 4-0's a daily, I have no problem saying that I think a lot of luck was involved.
The difference is, a lot of people know that I have been testing Elf combo since the bannings were announced and I've been getting crushed more often than I would like. I've also tried elf lists like this with Kavu Primarch and from experience I can say that the deck is easily beaten by removal.
But I will come out and say that there is a chance I am wrong(which I will happily admit to anytime I am). I'm starting to think that adding Rancor and Llanowar Sentinel is what the deck needs to give it that push..
My question is: Has anyone played these lists and if so, what are the matchups like, how much does Rancor and the Sentinel help? Is there anything you don't like?
Thank you.

I don't know how it's doing it. I sleeved it up, actually had elves for awhile but tried it out again starting last week and it's not gotten me anywhere. I'm probably batting 30% in the tourney practice room and haven't hit a match-up where I would say "oh, that's why they're playing elves."

Elves look well positioned in the metagame to rise from a tier 3 to a tier 2 deck. In fact, it has already happened. I took Dreagers 4-0 list for a spin. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YKKguZ-dEoWhy is it called Elves Combo? Is that because of Distant Melody + Lots of Elves = Even more elves?

I used to play a ton of the combo-centric list, I've not played with the more beatdown/big guys focused lists like the one posted. That said I think the combo list could be alright now as long as the full set of Spidersilk Armor is somewhere in the 75. The elf combo deck is incredibly powerful and alright against most of the top decks right now but the prevalence of electrickery is painful and hard to combat. I could see a more mid-rangy list doing alright but I agree that it seems a touch fragile to spot removal. I'll have to revisit the combo list and try the new lists as well.

Hi Mikey
That there is my list. I think elves in this version is less of a glass cannon and can actually grind out games vs post. The problem is affinity is a terrible matchup and is everywhere right now.
There is a primer over on mtgsalvation but I am on the work computer and that site is banned so can't link it

With UR Post at an all time low and a lot of affinity decks lowering their shaman count I think elves is well positioned now. Especially the version with mob justice to get past all the moment's peace running around. Any thoughts on this?

Affinity is still played heaps during my time-zone, they're just not 4-0'ing or 3-1'ing as much anymore Goblins on the other hand are def. seeing more top result which isn't good for elves due to post board sweepers. That said I've seen them go 4-0 just yesterday, if your lucky and don't fumble on drawing your 1 land the deck is solid (I just can't drop my land count under 17 since I'm rather unlucky)
