Hello to everyone
I'm a new Player to the pauper format and i have to say that i really like the Format and the community!
But there is something i really hate about the format too... The evil itself...everyone knows him, loves him, or (the majority) hates him...
The Devil has a Name: Cloudpost!
I´m a black Player at heart and when i started to play pauper, i wanted to start with a mono black control deck with ravenous/ chittering rats, tendrils and corrupt because it looked soo cute and had everything a Player could want...good creas, the best removel in the Format, discard...and so on...
Then i started playtesting and run into several cloudpost decks...and the dream was over!
The Mono Black deck had good matchups against the majority of the field or was at least 50/50 depending on the build i run...but against cloudpost there was no chance to beat it consistently, no matter which configuration i run. The Problem was that the cloudpost decks are easily able to out-cardadvantage us with the pletora of drawspells they run in form of mulldrifter, compulsiv Research, or Ghostly Flicker. And there was another problem we had against it...the Tempo! Even when the Black deck had a good draw with multible rats and other discard spells, it was to slow against cloudpost because the creas itself were too expensive for what they do and they put no real pressure on him so they can outdraw really easily out of the Situation and set us back with a temporal fissure or something else. So what could be the solution for all of this? I think there isnt even a real solution!( Maybe a banning of cloudpost could help )
But i think there is a bit of hope for mono black!
While testing i noticed that cloudpost decks really need the first 3-4 turns to build up the mana and to draw some cards to find the pieces they need and even than, they struggled sometimes to do so. This is the point where we have to attack them! I tried the 8 Ld plan in the Sideboard but it wasnt that good. While it was good to hit some lands on turn 3-4, it wasnt good/fast enough because we waste our turns without applying any pressure on them, so that they just keept playing lands and didnt care that we hit 1-2 lands of them. Ghostly Flicker made the Ld plan even worse. What should we do now???
Right! They ignore us with the gameplan, so we should do the same! How we do this? We Try to attack! Hard, Fast and A LOT!
The Decklist:
Lands
15 Swamp
Creatures
4 Carrion Feeder
4 Vampire Lacerator
4 Wretched Anurid
4 Dauthi Slayer
4 Pulse Tracker
4 Fume Spitter
4 Carnophage
4 Wicked Akuba
Spells
3 Geth's Verdict
3 Snuff Out
1 Victim of Night
2 Disfigure
4 Dark Ritual
SB: Under Construction( Some more removel, discard and some Utility creas)
This is a first draft of the deck and the first results of the testing are promising:
Mono Blue Fissure Post: 3-1
UR Post: 4-2
Mono Blue Delver: 3-1
Affinity: 3-2
Stompy/ Infect: 2-2
This are the first results of a 2 day testsession with the first draw of the deck and i like it a lot! Controldecks are realy easy to beat if they cant handle the pressure early enough but aggro decks can be really hard to beat because the quality of the creatures is much higher than ours.
How do you guys think about this Approach to attack the cloudpost decks? I Would like to hear your opinions on this Approach, card selection, suggestions for improvement and so on!
Thanks for reading and don´t forget... join the dark side...they have cookies!
(Ps: sorry for the bad english! )
