Hi everyone. I just found out about the podcast and the forums, so I thought I'd join in. I just started playing magic, and standard pauper seemed to be the perfect mix between affordability and freshness. Here's the decklist I've been using, any comments you guys might have would be extremely appreciated. --- Lands (22) --- 10 Island 8 Mountain 4 Izzet Guildgate--- Creatures (14) --- 4 Delver of Secrets4 Goblin Electromancer4 Nivix Cyclops2 Frostburn Weird--- Spells (24) --- 4 Artful Dodge2 Negate2 Cancel4 Hidden Strings4 Searing Spear4 Think Twice2 Brimstone Volley2 Pillar of FlameI use Hidden Strings as a multi-purpose card here. I can either use it to untap two of my own lands (thus making it free to cast and giving +3 to the Cyclops) or use it to tap potential blockers or deprive my opponent of mana. Artful Dodge can be cast twice in the same turn, even if it means making the Cyclops unblockable two times, for another +6. What I can't figure out is how to sideboard for this, does anyone have any pointers? EDIT: I've made some modifications following yugular's suggestions.

Electrickery is a good option for sb. Mizzium skin can protect you important creatures against removalheavy control decks in sb.
About the maindeck. Are you sure you want 4x Cancel? I could see myself splitting it between some Negates also. I feel like Negate is pretty safe 1/2-of in the maindeck at the moment and your deck wants to play as low curve as possible if you want full value off from Nivix Cyclops.
Unsummon effects would be good in this deck, better than Hidden Strings maybe. If only you had creatures with ETB effects then Peel from Reality would do work.

Electrickery and Mizzium Skin look good, yes. I also think that some Chandra's Fury might be good. I've lost some games to white decks full of 1/1's, so this would be a nice counter. I see what you mean about the 4 Counters, I've replaced two of them with Negates. On the other hand, I'm not sure I understand your reference to unsummon effects. You mean I should have some in the deck? Would I use them on my opponent or to save my own creatures?

I wouldn't play Chandra's Fury over Electrickery at any point. CF is too expensive in my opinion. On the other hand, I'm not sure I understand your reference to unsummon effects. You mean I should have some in the deck? Would I use them on my opponent or to save my own creatures? They are versatile, you can either save your guy or clear the path of blockers while groving cyclops and gaining more tempo.

I see what you meant by the unsummons now, thanks. CF is very expensive, yes. But I feel that for 5 mana (or even less if I have a Goblin Electromancer out), 4+ damage to my opponent and his creatures is worth it. I won't add 4 to the sideboard, but I think 2 would be good. Then again, I'm a total noob, so I could be very wrong

(if it was possible) CF is never better than Electrickery and shouldn't be in the deck before there is 4 trickeries.

Sourman, I like this deck - it is a Standard Pauper (or "Paup Standard") version of U/R Cyclops. My question is this - what will a Nivix Cyclops deck look like after M13 and the Innistrad block rotate out in October 2013 (or whenever the first expansion of the new block is released)? The deck in its current incarnation heavily relies upon Innistrad for its key mechanics - Delver is too good a card to pass up in this deck because of synergies realized when revealing a sorcery/instant that "flips" it and the potential for casting it to buff the Nivix Cyclops...

As long as some burn and bounce is in m14, I don't see why the deck would suffer from the loss of innistrad block. More spells will be produced and the deck will probably keep evolving and getting stronger in the next year and change until it cycles out.
Who knows what Theros will Friends, Romans, and Countrymen will bring to us for goodies.

I haven't really thought that far ahead From what I've seen playing this, Delver is a bomb, of course, but most of the damage comes from the Cyclops itself. Losing the Delver will hurt, but I think the deck will still win a few games here and there. And if it doesn't something new will come up and I'll be happily asking for help again

What about Cloudfin Raptor? With Weird and Cyclops, it's almost a guaranteed 2/3 flyer for {U}.

I like it. Same cost so the curve stays the same. Not as damaging to the other guy, as it needs other creatures to get big, but still valuable as a blocker. I'll start using it once the Delver goes away. Thanks
