I need help brewing a Big Green Pauper deck. Green has always been a favorite color of mine and now that i've been playing pauper for awhile i've decided to try and brew a green deck focusing on mana ramp and big big creatures. Lets see what i've got at the moment: You can view the deck quickly here: tappedout.net/mtg-decks/pauper-go-big-green/Go Big GreenLands:18x Forest 4x Tranquil Thicket Creatures:4x Aurochs Herd 3x Axebane Guardian 2x Fierce Empath 4x LLanowar Sentinel 4x Overgrown Battlement 4x Penumbra Spider 2x Ulamog's Crusher 4x Vine Trellis Intants/Sorceries:3x Prey Upon 2x Sprout Swarm 3x Untamed Might 3x Vines of Vastwood So i'm not really liking what i've got so far and could really use some brewing assitance. Aurochs Herd is basically the card I built the deck around since nothing seems cooler then trampling over your opponent with a herd of battle cattle. Along with Ulamog's Crusher they fill out the top end of my deck. Essentially my creature choices fall into three categories Mana Ramp:Axebane Guardian Overgrown Battlement Vine Trellis Mid Range:Penumbra Spider LLanowar Sentinel End Game:Aurochs Herd Ulamog's Crusher Fierce Empath is in there to Tutor up my big threats. Sprout Swarm is my alternate win-con if i'm sitting on large amounts of mana and have no threats. Vines of Vastwood is for creature protection. Prey Upon is for creature removal and finally Untamed Might is there to possible close out a game if I have the mana (so far the card is really underperforming) A big question many of you might have is, "Why no Cloudpost?". Well at the moment I don't have any and I really just don't like Cloudpost decks. If the only viable way for me to make this big green deck work is to make it a Cloudpost deck then I suppose I can knuckle down and buy them but only if I have too. I'd really appreciate any and all feedback. Feel free to propose radical changes to the deck. If I have to change half the deck to get my herd of battle cattle then please let me know how!

Rancor. I would suggest Rancor. Also any green creatures with Undying.
What I'm seeing here is a big 'end game' deck, if you can fishbowl your way there. I don't see much in the way of early game. For ramp you could easily use the Gatekeeper in conjunction with the Axebane. Combined they can bring out a decent amount of ramp, and almost always ensures that you have have the mana you need.
I have a hard time justifying a 4/4 for 6, even if it tutors. With as fast as decks like Burn and Delver-Fiend can be you aren't going to be making it that far before dying. Blue control is going to simply counter your big creatures, or bounce them.
If you like playing Green, I recommend looking at "Stompy" decklists to get a few ideas as to what the "big boys" are running, and work from there.
Always like seeing a new concept though, and I think it would be amazing to kill someone with a herd of cows!

Stompy is a great Tier 1 deck I admit but it really doesn't capture what I love about green, ramp and big fatties. To that end i'm going to still and try to create a non-Cloudpost Big Green Deck. After tweaking and tinkering around I think i've created a deck with good, ramp, creatures, some removal, and good synergies. Behold,
Golgaritron!
Lands: 8x Forest 2x Swamp 4x Urza's Mine 4x Urza's Power Plant 4x Urza's Tower
Creatures (Fatties): 4x Aurochs Herd 4x Ulamog's Crusher
Creatures: (Utility) 4x Fierce Empath 1x Krosan Tusker 2x Mold Shambler
Instant/Sorceries (Land Manipulation): 1x Crop Rotation 4x Reap and Sow
Instant/Sorceries (Removal): 3x Cruel Revival 4x Nameless Inversion
Instant/Sorceries (Creature Retrieval): 1x Disturbed Burial 2x Grim Harvest
Artifacts: 4x Expedition Map 4x Prophetic Prism
So it's not mono-green I admit. I really needed someway to draw cards or generate card advantage and I just didn't want to use blue. So instead by adding in black i'm able to retrieve cards out of my graveyard and gives me access to several nice removal spells. There are some real nice synergies in the deck.
Fierce Empath: He really is quite the tutor card, through him I can grab either of my big fatties. I also can grab my Krosan Tusker if I need some land or card draw. Also his presence on the battlefield helps provide some protection vs edict effects.
Nameless Inversion: I'm really loving this card, it can act as removal vs anything less then 3 thoughness but also can easily pump my big creatures since they can withstand the toughness loss. In addition to its many uses on the battle field I can go searching for it by playing an Auroch Herd (Since it counts as an Auroch) and I can retrieve it using Cruel Revival (since it counts as a zombie!)
Both Grim Harvest and Disturbed Burial give me ways to recur my creature cards. If i'm playing against a removal heavy deck I usually grab my Aurochs and then if they manage to kill one I can always retrieve him and by recasting him I get to search for another Nameless Inversion!
The deck still needs a lot of work and i'm not expecting it to ever be Tier 1, but I am enjoying the challenge of working with the Urza lands instead of the Posts and nothing is cooler then my Auroch stampede!

I wasn't aware that Master's Edition reprinted the Urza lands in common. That could make a new series of decks.

I wasn't aware that Master's Edition reprinted the Urza lands in common. That could make a new series of decks. They wren't reprinted in MMA as far as I know but they were common in Fifth Edition. I really think that on the whole Cloudposts are superior to Urza lands though. All three Urza lands yield a total of 7 colorless mana and while 2 Cloudposts and 1 Glimmer post yield only 5 mana, 3 Straight Cloudposts yields a staggering 9 mana. And of course the life gain with cloudposts are ridiculous. As far as my deck is going, for any that are wondering, the deck can either win big or loose big. If I get a turn 3-4 Urzatron I can really start pumping out fatties or destroying land. That however is far from guaranteed. I need more ways to fetch my lands. Reap and Sow while a nice spell really is only used after i've already assembled the Urzatron. Expedition map is working well and Crop Rotation is occasionally useful (I hate having the negative card advantage though and loosing a green source can hurt!). I'm thinking of including Ancient Stirrings as a way to sift through my deck looking for land or expedition maps/Prisms. My black removal/recursion spells are working well and most of my creatures are being effective. Except for perhaps the Mold Shambler. I know that being able to blowup any non-creature permanent is great but I have trouble paying 6 mana to do it. I'm thinking about replacing him with Wickerbough Elder. He ends up costing a total of 5 mana for a 4/4 and gets to destroy an enchantment or artifact. While this is less broad then the Shambler's ability it does allow me to blow up affinity creatures! All in all I know that this will never be a tier 1 deck but I need all the brewing help I can get. I feel that this deck has potential but I just need to unlock it!

Wow, I am stunned by the synergies. I love the Nameless Inversions who can be tutored by Aurochs herd and rebought by Cruel Revival. Here are my two cents.
Three Cruel Revivals might be a little bit too much. After all, the only thing they buy back is Nameless Inversion. This could be solved by just removing one of them or by throwing in some copies of Twisted Abomination. Abom can be tutored up by Fierce Empath, giving you an additional way of accessing black mana, should you need it.
Speaking of stuff to tutor up: It's a pity that there is no equivalent of Mold Shambler that costs 6+ mana. You probably have to stick with Shambler. Additional tutor targets that you could test are Fangren Marauder, which I used to great success in my RG Tron version. However, I am running 7 Chromatics and two Pyrite Spellbombs, as well as 3-4 Crop Rotations with Artifact lands, making triggering Fangren much more reliable. It would probably be a SB option against Affinity in your build, but I think it could work wonders, preventing them from going off with Atog / Diciple of the Vault in the late game. Another tutor target that came to my mind is Walker of the Grove, which would give you a 5 mana 4/4 or 8 mana Thragtusk-ish split card. It's probably too weak, but you could try. I don't think that there is need for Stuff like Jungle weaver, you seem to have enough removal in your deck.
I would also consider just sticking to Disturbed Burrial as your lategame engine. Three engine cards seem a little bit too much.
The last idea I had was going down to three Aurochs Herds. You could also put one in the sideboard against removal heavy decks. Most of the time tough, three copies should be plenty to finish the game.
Good luck with the deck. I am maybe going to make a video of it in the future, if you want me to.

Thanks for the rundown Dom, we tron brewers need to stick together! After looking at your R/G Tron list i've decided to run some Ancient Stirrings as a way to hopefully ensure proper land drops and assemble the tron earlier. Here is my deck as it stands: Golgaritron Assemble! Creature (16) 4x Aurochs Herd 4x Fierce Empath 2x Krosan Tusker 4x Ulamog's Crusher 2x Wickerbough Elder Instant (7) 1x Crop Rotation 2x Cruel Revival 4x Nameless Inversion Artifact (7) 3x Expedition Map 4x Prophetic Prism Land (22) 8x Forest 2x Swamp 4x Urza's Mine 4x Urza's Power Plant 4x Urza's Tower Sorcery (8) 2x Ancient Stirrings 2x Disturbed Burial 4x Reap and Sow I've been running the Krosan Tusker for the same reason you suggested the Twisted Abomination in that I can use it to find any basic land I need. Of course the Tusker gives me a nice extra card as well but I also think that the Abomination has some nice synergy with cruel revival. I've dropped a grim harvest Tutor up Abominatoin -> Cycle it for a swamp -> then cast Cruel Revival retrieving my Abomination for further play! Seems pretty fun and i'm going to have to try it out later. Thinking of taking out Crop Rotation. I love the card and I can see how it's really a star in your R/G deck but in this deck it seems that often I don't want to sacrifice my only green source to power the Tron. Perhaps i'll board in another Ancient Stirrings in it's place. Can't wait to try out your R/G deck as well. I just need to buy a few more cards for it and then I can start testing it! Would love to see a video if you don't mind. If you do make a video to be sure to credit this thread on mtgsalvation: forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=438841I borrowed several ideas from their 8 Post version.
