I'm new to the forum -- definitely like what I see. I LOVE PAUPER.
I was wondering what you all thought about the prospects of pauper entering the mainstream of magic paper play.
I hear people say it will probably never be anything other than a novelty, because Wizards wants to make $$ and that can't happen with the commons (which I don't even know is financially true).
When I say mainstream magic play, I mean on the same level as legacy, type 2, etc..
I don't play on MTGO so it sucks being so into pauper and having no one to play with!
Sidenote: if pauper became a mainstream format -- my collection would quadruple in value lol

Wizards does make plenty of money online on Pauper, but I doubt they will support it widely in paper. But I think Pauper will be one of the main vessels for Wizards to bring more people online until the eventual end of paper Magic in 2037
Actually, I love to hear about paper tournaments. I have already published tournament reports from paper Pauper tournaments in Brazil on mtgostrat.com and would love to give more publicity and support to the paper pauper community

There's a local game store in my area that does a monthly standard pauper tournament but I have yet to attend. I have no paper cards and no interest in winning prize packs and my paper competitive days are long behind me. It is cool that it's offered though and who knows maybe I'll spend a buck or two and build a deck to play one day, but until then, MTGO I'm all yours.

The shop I used to play at seemed to draw just as many pauper people as other formats. It was sporadic, but occasionally the event got very large.
Many of those who attended were younger players or those new to the game. Imho, wizards is making a huge mistake by not letting paper pauper become its own format. It would be an ideal format for those new to magic. A $10 investment in a tier 1 deck is easy to make, and it allows younger players to enter the stage on an equal resource footing. It's the perfect gateway to the more expensive scenes of standard and modern.

I would play paper Pauper if I could. I have to go 2000 km to Poland and xmimx's posse to play paper Pauper

Magic is bigger than ever so they don't need to risk anything right now, but if Magic was on a decline again, this might be a valid option for them. Duel of the Planeswalkers does the $10 thing and also helps the 99% of players who do not go to tournaments (tournament play is a lot more common among online players than paper players)

Magic is bigger than ever Really? Because in 1998, in my hometown Magic was everywhere, sold in a few Gamestores and even in Electronic Game shops plus I could get single cards quite easily, now there is only 1 shop that sells magic near me (which is a toyshop), I now get most of my cards online.
