With Theros now out and the new standard pauper metagame being developed I thought it high time that I try and brew my favorite deck archetype, big green fatties! I considered myself a Timmy/Vorthos player and thus the new devotion mechanic coupled with monstrous has me very excited. So here is what i've come up with so far:
Creature (24) 3x Deadly Recluse 4x Elvish Mystic 2x Leafcrown Dryad 4x Nessian Asp 4x Nylea's Disciple 2x Rumbling Baloth 2x Slaughterhorn 3x Voyaging Satyr
Enchantment (5) 3x Feral Invocation 2x Verdant Haven
Instant (3) 3x Plummet
Sorcery (3) 3x Horncaller's Chant
Land (24) 24x Forest
Sideboard (13) 1x Deadly Recluse 3x Phytoburst 2x Pit Fight 1x Plummet 3x Ranger's Guile 3x Sundering Growth
The idea behind the deck is to ramp into large fatties such as the Asp or Horncaller's chant while I hold of my enemies with deathtouch (Deadly Recluse) and/or life gain (Nylea's Disciple). I've had a moderate amount of success so far. I've played against a fairly large amount of UW Fliers and both the Deadly Recluse and Nessian Asp give them headaches. Also that's the reason for my mainboard plummets. Most of the cards do a fair amount of work in the deck. Even though I still believe that the Centaur Healer is a better card I am enjoying Nylea's disciple (a few steps closer to my centaur tribal deck!).
I would love some help brewing with Big Green here and if anyone has any suggestions on cards to add or subtract please let me know!
P.S. I think a mono green deck would be a great brew of the month!

I take it back.....
Well it seems that I may have been enthralled with some of the new green cards and overlooked a much simpler more straight forward green strategy. My newest mono-green incarnation still holds true to the ramp for big creatures while adding in some interesting growth elements. After a couple of re-works I give you....
Beast Beats
Creature (31) 4x Advocate of the Beast 4x Battering Krasis 3x Deadly Recluse 4x Elvish Mystic 3x Nessian Asp 3x Nylea's Disciple 4x Rumbling Baloth 3x Slaughterhorn 3x Voyaging Satyr
Instant (3) 3x Ranger's Guile
Enchantment (2) 2x Verdant Haven
Land (24) 24x Forest
Sideboard (15) 1x Deadly Recluse 3x Phytoburst 3x Pit Fight 4x Plummet 4x Naturalize
So Advocate of the Beast may be a rather underwhelming card in Classic Pauper but in a slower format like Standard Pauper I think he might be able to shine. I came around to the idea off adding a Beast theme to my deck when I noticed that the Rumbling Baloth (added for more green mana symbols) and the Slaughterhorn (add in for tricks) were both beasts. After a little research I came up with battering krasis as my 3rd beast for the deck. From my experience I find that mana dorks most important use is to get you to the 3-4cmc spot a turn early. So with an Elvish Mystic in my opening hand I can play some nice 3cmc creatures on turn 2 (Battering Krasis, Slaughterhorn, or the Advocate!) or get a rumbling baloth out on turn 3!
So far my play testing has been very positive except of course versus hexproof enchantments (which seem to be fairly prevalent). My SB Naturalize come in handy game 2 but game 1 it can be rough. So I don't want to sound to excited over what may turn about to be a sub-standard deck but here goes something!

I like it! Adding it to my growing list of standard pauper decks.
Everyone in forums talks about hex proof but I have yet to play against it. And only one top eighteen in the mpdc. Maybe I have just been missing them.
Has verdant haven been providing an answer for a problem? Or is the hope you get to untap the enchanted land with the satyr?
